United Brachial Plexus Network presents to you the 5th annual UBPN Virtual Race for Awareness. The goal of this Run/Walk is to bring awareness to the public about life altering brachial plexus injuries while raising funds to support UBPN Camps. UBPN Camp is a 4 day, 3 night informational gathering for people affected by brachial plexus injuries and their families. Through fundraisers like this, UBPN is able to have all people with a brachial plexus injury attend camp without paying for room and board.
A brachial plexus injury is nerve damage to the network of nerves that control all movement and sensation to one or both arms. These injuries most commonly occur during the birthing process (affecting the infant's arm(s) however, they can occur following motor vehicle accidents or from injuries sustained during football or hockey accidents. These are just a couple of the ways that a person may incur a brachial plexus injury later in life.
Nerve damage currently has no cure which causes many brachial plexus injuries to be life long injuries causing pain, and limited use of affected arm or arms. These injuries are often times easy to overlook while still causing life altering pain both physically and mentally which is why your assistance with fundraising is vital to help get injured children and adults to Camp UBPN where the injured and their families will have the opportunity to connect with many people who are going through similar experiences. The Camp bring friendships alive and provides much needed information and support to members of the brachial plexus community.
October 16-22 is Brachial Plexus Awareness Week. Please help spread awareness of these injuries by racing however you want throughout awareness week. Pick your distance and your race preference - Walk, Run, Bike, Swim.
Looking forward to "racing" with you!
