Battle at Prairie Grove

The Battle for Prairie Grove is the 1st event in the Arkansas Gravel Series. Each event in the series is designed for those looking for an adventure day on the bike or are looking to race. The route begins with a neutral rollout through downtown Prairie Grove. Then riders will experience all sorts of gravel – smooth to more rocky as well as paved/chip and seal hard surface roads. At approximately 70 fee per mile, the elevation gain at this event isn’t terrible but there will be some challenging climbs over the course of the 53.5 mile route.

About: Located in western Washington County, Prairie Grove is home to Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park, one of the most intact Civil War battlefields with more than 900 acres. Plan to spend some time downtown in one of Prairie Grove’s many antique stores.

Mission: Part of the event’s mission is supporting local non-profits focused on reducing food insecurity and improving mental health such as Life Ministries of Prairie Grove. Participants are encouraged to bring one canned good to registration to donate to Life Ministries. Also, a portion of event proceeds will also be donated to this non-profit.

Course maps: best efforts will be made to mark the course with directional signage. However, it’s not uncommon for this signage to be moved/knocked down/not visible at the time of the event. Participants are encouraged to use a GPS to navigate the course and print/bring cue sheets as backup.

Aid stations: there will be one aid station at approximately the halfway point of the course at the Evansville Community Building. Please plan hydration and food appropriately before and after the aid station. All participants are asked to be self-supported. Riders will also pass Morrow General Store where snacks and drinks can be purchased.

Registration: will be open until 5 PM the day before the event. -T-shirt/rider number pickup opens at 8 AM on event day and all participants must have a waiver on file. Helmets are required and must be worn at all times a participant is riding their bicycle.

Weather: Arkansas weather can be hard to predict but the event will take place rain or shine. The start of the event will be delayed for lightning in the area. Once on the course, plan to be weather aware and react accordingly to weather alerts.

Lodging/accommodations: numerous choices may be found in Fayetteville approximately 20 minutes east of Prairie Grove. Siloam Springs, 30 minutes north of Prairie Grove, also has locations to choose from.
