Activities: Trail race, 19.9 Miles

The Ed Anacker Bridger Ridge Run is one of the most technical trail runs in the United States.

In 2012, Runner’s World Magazine named the Ridge Run one of its top 31 trail races in the country, giving it the title of “Most Raw Exposure.” In 2013, Outside Online named the Ridge Run one of its Top 10 Bucket List trail runs in the WORLD.

The Ridge Run is 19.90 miles of brutal climbing and descending, complete with unstable footing, unpredictable weather, and, of course, miles of exposure along the ridge line of the Bridger Mountain range.

Current plan for the 2022 Ridge Run Sign-ups

Currently we do not have any Covid restrictions, however as a successful applicant, we do ask that you keep in mind your safety as well as your fellow runners and Aid Station workers.  If you feel sick or know that you have been exposed PLEASE consider the well being of others and opt out of the run. While we are confident we will be able to have the race in 2022, please be aware when you sign up the event has the potential to be cancelled with minimal notice.  Please know we are committed to keeping all runners safe, and not putting others health at risk.  We will be taking guidance from our public health institutions, monitoring the situation, and communicating with you clearly as things evolve. We will make a final decision to continue with the race as planned by July 1st. If at any time we have to cancel the event, we will not reschedule it later in the year. We will do everything we can to make sure we can have runners on the ridge again this year.

Here are the guidelines that will help you know how to participate:

  1. The Ridge Run Lottery/Selection Sign-ups will be May 8 - May 15th.
  2. All lottery participants will be notified via email on May 21st of their Ridge Run status.
  3. Accepted runners and lottery winners will receive a link to register for the race and have until May 29th to do so.
  4. All others will receive a link for volunteer opportunities (increase your odds for next year).
  5. July 1st will be the decision date whether to continue with the race or not.
  6. NEW THIS YEAR:  The first wave will start at 6:30 am. The following 4 waves will start every five minutes thereafter.
  • At this time there are no Covid restrictions however our rules may have to change in order to have the race. It is possible we may have to impose strict rules in order to have the race so please be aware.
  • THIS YEAR'S RUN IS AGAIN "CUPLESS. That means that if you want anything to drink at the Aid Stations you MUST have your own container READY.  Also, there are limited snacks at the Aid Stations so we ask that you carry what you think you will need.
  • If for ANY reason YOU have to cancel the race after sign-ups, our regular policy stands – there are NO REFUNDS for any reason.
  • If WE have to cancel the race, those admitted into the race will have the option to “roll-over” their chance to run in 2022, do a virtual Ridge Run (and get swag)(VIRTUAL OPTION WITH FOREST SERVICE AND HEALTH DEPT. APPROVAL ONLY), or donate (and get swag) . Your unused portion of the entry fee will go  directly to the Gallatin Valley Land Trust – the non-profit we donate proceeds to every year. They help provide many of the trails we run on all the time!
  •  As a successful lottery applicant, the entry fee for the Ridge Run will be $90.00 plus a $6.22 administration fee. This will maintain the highest quality run possible.

  • The first wave will start at 6:30 am. The following 4 waves will start every five minutes thereafter.
  • Some of the finish line activities will likely change this year.  We are currently working with the Forest Service in this regard.
  • In order to keep the traffic down, we hope to have a commuter bus from the Fairgrounds to the M.

IMPORTANT EVENT DETAILS, PLEASE READ THIS STUFF!!! It takes years and months to get ready for the Ridge Run so please take a few minutes to read this important info. We communicate via email, so if your email address is incorrect or does not accept group emails, you will not get important information. If you register for others (friends or family members), please use THEIR email not yours. We won't accept registrations that uses one email for multiple registrations. This is very important to make sure all announcements will be sent to those who signed up. Your age is based on birthdate, so make sure you enter the correct year. Also, emergency contact is crucial, both name and number. If your information changes, let us know at BridgerRidgeRunInfo@gmail.com. Thanks! YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR RECEIVING EMAILS!!! REGISTRATION FEE: The price is $90 non refundable and the service fee is +/- $6.00, so the total will be about $96.00. Ten timers, previous overall winners, and Raffle winners please choose the appropriate category so you are not charged. Non appropriate folks entering the Previous Overall Winner / Raffle winners category will not be officially registered. ESTIMATED TIME If you have never done Ridge Run before, but have done a marathon, add about 1/3 to your marathon time, i.e. you run a 4 hour marathon, you'll do around a 5.3 hour Ridge Run. Doubling your round trip M-to-Baldy-to-M time is also a good estimate. WAVE STARTS To prevent congestion at the start, we have 5 waves starting every 5 minutes at 6:30 am. Wave time is deducted from finish time. Wave 1 is for highly trained athletes. Wave 2 is for those who expect to finish in 4 1/2 to 5 hours. Wave 3 is for 5+ to 6 hour finishers. Wave 4 is for approximately 6+ to 7 hours. Wave 5 is for 7+ hour finishers. We will use your guesstimate and other factors in determining waves. If you want to be with someone, plan ahead and please submit the same estimated finish time and wave. We cannot guarantee buddies. We'll tell you your wave a week before the race. IMPORTANT NOTE:  The first one across the finish line, no matter which wave they started in, wins 1st place.   SAFETY & ORIENTATION Runners, especially first timers, are strongly advised to attend the pre-race meeting Friday night at the M Trailhead to receive updated information and review maps. EVERYONE will receive an e-mail with the meeting time. The M Trailhead is located about 2 miles North of Bozeman on 86N, and is the finish line of the race. You MUST be at least 18 yrs old to participate in this adventure. Please, NO DOGS, bring water, wear layers and a hat. If you must drop out of the race, PLEASE let someone know of your decision and location so we don't spend hours trying to rescue you. Show your bib number at each checkpoint. REFUNDS & CANCELLATION There are NO refunds for any reason. Funds are donated to good local trail causes. Please let us know if you need to cancel. We must keep track of each runner on the mountain, so it's very important to know who is out there. To cancel, email mail to: BridgerRidgeRunInfo@gmail.com.
