The Carolina Beach Double Sprint is the most unique race in the NCTS. Started in 1997 as the Kure Beach Double Sprint, this race has become a favorite among triathletes in the mid-Atlantic region. When the race started in 1997, it was the first and only race of its kind for age groupers (the masses) in the U.S.
The unique format, where participants start and end with the swim, is deceptively tough. At first glance, the shorter race segments might signal an easier race.
But experienced "Double-Sprinters" will tell you that this race is an all out sprint. There's nothing aerobic about it.
The race also offers out-of-towners, the opportunity for a nice late spring/early summer weekend at the beach.
