For a long time it was assumed that black people really did not commit suicide at the level or rate that we often think of in the general population. Studies show that the suicide rates among black youth ages 5-11 are increasing faster than that of any other racial or ethnic group. Research has also found that for youths between the age of 10-19 the suicide rate has nearly doubled. The I Choose Life Virtual 5K is a statement that we hear the pain of our loved ones and we stand together to help bring about change and healing.
