Activities: Trail race 30 Miles

The Olympics

Lots of people have heard of Hurricane Ridge and may have traveled up the road to the National Park’s main visitor area.  But fewer have explored further east along the ridge, where the real gems are.  We will start from Deer Park, already high on the ridge.  Rolling hills will soon open up to views of ridges upon ridges as we approach Obstruction Point.  From here, a view of Mount Olympus will greet you (Olympus makes you work to get a view of her!).  Once we turn south towards Moose Peak, the trail gets even more fun and a bit more technical.   At mile 10 at the top of Moose, we will begin the largest descent of the day (3,000’) passing by some quintessential babbling brooks and high alpine lakes.  As we reach Badger Creek, the climbing back up to Hurricane Ridge begins again to regain the ridge trail.  The route finishes by retracing our gentle downhill back towards Deer Park, with a short climb at the very end to finish.

Most of the trails are butter smooth singletrack, but the section along the ridge from Obstruction to Moose is somewhat technical and has some minor slipping hazards.  Distance is about 24 miles and elevation of 7,000’.
