The Open Range Gravel Race is an ultra-endurance bicycle race through a remote and rugged area of the state. Start time for the 200k race is 8am and there will be a 13 hour cutoff. The distance for the 200k will be between 125 - 132 miles. If you don't think you can maintain a 10 mph average, please feel free to sign up for the 100k+ or the Open Range Tour. The 100k+ is a non-competitive ride starting at 8:20am.
The Open Range Tour: This will be a backpacking event on the 200k course and sells out every year! Water provided in Sun City (mile 35) and Gyp Hills Guest Ranch (mile 80). The tour will depart at 8am on Friday and ride 80 miles to the Gyp Hills Guest ranch at their own pace. Riders will camp at Gyp Hills Guest Ranch and finish the ride on Saturday morning. Riders will receive an included dinner and breakfast at the Gyp Hills Guest Ranch. Riders will be able to drop off their gear at the Gyp Hills Guest Ranch prior to start and pick it back up from the Ranch after finishing. This is a non-competitive ride and limited to 50 riders. The group last year had a blast Sign up now for one of the best ways to see the Gyp Hills. This opportunity will sell out!
Sun City and Medicine Lodge will be the checkpoints for the race. Sun City is around 35 mile mark and Medicine Lodge will be around mile 80. Checkpoints will have water, Hammer Heed, and light snacks. However, we don't recommend relying on the checkpoint for your nutrition. There is a drop bag service available to riders. Bring your nutrition in a clearly marked bag or soft-sided cooler and we'll move it to the checkpoint(s). Heavy duty slider zip bags with ducktape and name work great! If racing in the 200k we will take 2 bags (one for Sun City, one for Medicine Lodge- we will not move the same bag from checkpoint to checkpoint).
While we do allow transfers up to registration close, we do not allow refunds for race fee. If you think you might need a refund, we suggest the race insurance provided through BikeReg. Proceeds from Open Range go to local non-profit.
