This Event honors our local fallen firefighter, Mr. Richard Sheltra of the Pineville Volunteer Fire Department. All proceeds will benefit the "Richard Sheltra Memorial Foundation."
This Foundation is designed to purchase New Turnout Gear and provide Educational Scholarships for first responders.

Richard Sheltra Memorial 10K
The "Richard Sheltra Memorial 10K, 5K & Fun Run" presented by Hendrick Honda will be held on Saturday, April 22nd. Join us in bringing our community, family & friends together to celebrate the life of Richard Sheltra and raise money to support his foundation. We want to honor and recognize him for his commitment and dedication to our community. Richard laid down his life while battling a multi-alarm fire in Pineville on Saturday, April 30, 2016. Please come out and show your appreciation and support for Pineville's fallen hero, who paid the ultimate sacrifice! Proceeds from this event benefits the Richard Sheltra Memorial Foundation which provides resources, equipment and scholarships for volunteer first responders. These were areas of great concern and empathy for Richard. Packet pickup will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023 at the locations listed below. Run For your Life-Piper Glen Location Friday, April 21 11am-6pm 6416 Rea Rd. All 10K and 5K participants will be timed and will receive their disposable timing tag during packet pick up. Medals and Awards: Finisher Medals for 5K and 10K participants Top 3 Males and Females in the following age divisions will receive awards for the 10k and 5k. 10K Divisions: Overall, 14 & Under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+. 5K Divisions: Overall, 12 & Under, 13-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+. Claiming Awards: As results become available, runners will be able to claim their awards at the awards ceremony prior to the last participant finishing. We do NOT ship unclaimed awards Weather Policy: Races are held, rain or shine, unless EMS determines that conditions are too dangerous. This will be based on a prudent decision made on race weekend or race day by EMS and local law enforcement officials. If the race is canceled due to inclement weather there will be neither refunds nor transfers. This position is consistent with USA Track & Field recommendations and with the protocol of sharing the risks associated with the sport of running. In the event of inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances, EMS reserves the right to alter, cancel or eliminate any/all portions of the race. Refunds and Transfers: Registration fees are non-refundable. Event registrations are non-transferable between individuals, events, or years. Time Limit: Walkers are welcome in the 5K and 10K event. The time limit for the 10K is 1:45. In order to comply with the agreement with the City of Charlotte, streets comprising the route must be reopened to vehicular traffic on a set schedule Parking: PLEASE arrive in time to park. There will be NO PARKING at the Belle Johnston Community Center! Parking Maps will be available at Packet Pickup. Please Carpool if possible!
