Check out this ARTICLE in the Titusville Herald to learn more about the passion behind this race! Please excuse the mistake of the date in the article, the race is on May 27, 2023, this was an error on my part not the reporter.
All participants will receive a custom finishers medal upon completion.
Check out www.roughneckgravelroubaix.com for information on where to stay, what to do, and exciting news about this premier gravel race!
We will again start at the Titusville Ironworks. From here all 5 unique routes will roll out of Titusville with a police escort, it will be less than One mile until you are on the gravel.
All of the routes will boast a 95% or more gravel to pavement ratio, traveling some very remote dirt roads. Where likely the most traffic you will see will be the wildlife. Every route will travel past historic oil sites, abandon oil wells, and other unique vistas in the area.
The 5 routes will have been uniquely named to encompas the rich oil history of the valley that changed the world. While the routes are not 100% finalzied yet, we still want to ride the last 2 to ensure we love them and verify our GPS routes. We plan to mark all the routes as well as possible, we will have volunteers at every major road crossing, and will provide gps routes from strava and ridewithgps.com. We can tell you that the distances will not be less than the following:
The McClintock - Named after the oldest continusouly producing oil well, McClintock Well #1. This will be the longest route. This route will have 4 aid stations, one of which will be at the Historic McClintock well site, then it will meander it's way to the Allegheny river before heading north.
The Colonel Drake - Named after Colonel Edwin Drake who was the first to drill a modern producing oil well. This will be the second longest route and will not be less than a Metric Century or 62 miles. This route will have 3 aid stations one of which will be at the historic Pithole Musuem.
The Ironworks - Named after the historic Titusville Ironworks which was founded in 1860 and built machinery specifically for the oil fields. The building is home now to the Ironworks Taphouse and will be home to our registration site! This route will be approximately 42 miles in distance again boasting greater than 95% of the route as pure Northwest PA Gravel!
The (Unamed as of now) ~25 mile is coming in 2023. This route is still being named and finalized, so please keep checking back. There was a lot of request for this route to graduate folks from the 12 to the 40 mile. We are all about helping participants conquer and crush new goals!
The Ida Tarbell - so named after the Investigative Journalist Ida Tarbell. This route is specifically designed for those of you that are gravel curious. This route will be a one way trip by bike for 12.1 miles. Of that 12.1 miles 10 of it will be pure gravel, then once you get to the historic Petroleum Center you will hop aboard the historic Oil Creek and Titusville Railroad for a train ride back to the start finish party, your train ticket is included in your registration.
At the finish line The Titusville Ironworks Tap House will be bringing down their airstream trailer converted to a bar to take care of all your post race hydration needs. Partnered with The Magic Bus, who will be providing food for the race festivities. They will be providing both an all you can eat and a single serve options.
Pre and post race housing, restaurants, and things to do in the area information can be found at our website Roughneck Gravel Roubaix
