The SPEAK™ 5K is an annual run/walk hosted by Safe+Sound Somerset, the lead domestic violence agency in Somerset County, NJ. While raising awareness about teen dating safety and healthy relationships, the SPEAK™ 5K also raises funds to support S+SS's programs that empower adult and child survivors of intimate partner violence and domestic abuse.
Recognizing the unique circumstances arising from the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 SPEAK™ 5K will be a virtual event this year for the safety of our participants. We hope you will join us for the Virtual SPEAK™ 5K and that, while Running for Healthy Relationships, you engage in social distancing and other recommended CDC guidelines to minimize the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19.
The Virtual SPEAK™ 5K/will take place from Saturday, October 3rd to Sunday, October 11th.
You determine the location of your event!
If you want to recreate the atmosphere of previous SPEAK™ 5Ks, you can always grab a few others to run a socially distanced race on the paved roads and paths at Duke Island Park. Or, if you prefer, choose another favorite 5K route.
Instructions will be emailed to you a few days in advance of the Virtual SPEAK™ 5K with details on how to print your personalized race bib and easily record your time or that you participated.
New in 2020:
Participants who recruit 7 Referrals (i.e., registered runners or walkers) are eligible to have their $30 registration fee refunded. A short instructional video to learn more about tracking referrals and email marketing is available here.
Commemorative Shirt
All participants will receive our commemortive 2020 Virtual SPEAK™ 5K/Running for Healthy Relationships t-shirt, which are also available for purchase to the public. This year's registration fee was increased by $5 to cover the cost of shipping & handling of t-shirts.
- If you register by September 1st, your t-shirt will be mail in advance of the event.
- For those who register September 2nd through October 3rd, the event t-shirt mailed to you in later in October.
