Be a Rebel, Ride Gravel.

ALL NEW COURSES FOR 2023!  There's one thing you can count on -- you'll never race or ride the same course twice in the Whiskey Rebellion.  We've been exploring the backroads of Southwestern PA since 2017 and there's so much GOOD GRAVEL in Washington and Greene Counties.  For 2023, we've moved to the very southwest corner of PA.  Course Director, Don, says that he has created the fastest course of his life -- more miles of flatter creek bottom between major climbs and more fast, long downhills for YOU to recover before the next major hill climb.  Total elevation remains about the same at over 90 ft of climbing per mile so the 400-500 ft WRG climbs remain as punchy as usual.  And we brought back the CASK but at 97 miles (vs the 130 miles distance of previous years).  Plus, Don has brought back some favorite roads including Birch Rd, Newland School and Harmony Hill which are great candidates for new KOM/QOM titles!???????

In 2021, more than 400 racers and riders took on the Rebellion Challenge.  We had some of the fastest racers in the Mid-Atlantic region.  In 2022, we've developed all new course routes with even more gravel and we've moved to a bigger venue in Claysville, PA.  For 2023, you'll race the same gravel roads where the free-spirited rebels of Western PA grew rye and produced whiskey consumed by the fledging United States of America.  You'll be truly challenged as you ride through the historic and hilly landscapes of Washington County, PA, whether you ride the spirited SIP 28 M, the PINT 49 M, the JUG 76 M or the formidable CASK 97 M.  Compete with your friends and fellow riders from more than a dozen states.   Or if you are new to gravel in PA, try the 28 M shorter distances for a spirited ride.  Perfect for cyclists who ride off-road including Gravel Grinders, Cyclecross Racers, Mountain Bikers and Adventure Cyclists.  You'll ride many of the original winding rural roads up steep hills to the ridge tops and then head down into valleys, crossing historic covered bridges before the next hill.  Road surfaces vary from pea-sized to new uncompacted cobbles and are stitched together with pavement sections for your recovery.

The overall course is comprised of 3 loops that all connect at the start and finish in East Finley Community Park in Claysville, PA.  All routes are completed by riding one or two of the loops to comprise the total route distance.  You'll be within 20 mile circle (as the crow flies) of the start & finish at all points on the course, and the loops have very little overlap so you will be experiencing new terrain no matter the distance you choice; you will not ride the same loop twice to just to make up the distance!

No matter what length you ride, you'll cross a finish line where we'll welcome you back in friendly, Pittsburgh yinzer style.  After you put your bike away, come celebrate your ride or race at the best post-ride/race party at the Enlow Pavilion!  Relax with friends, listen to local music and trade stories.  Enjoy locally sourced farm fresh food and taste the best local whiskey from award-winning local distilleries.  We'll also raffle off some great prizes from our generous sponsors and celebrate our winners and finishers.

To adequately conquer this ride, you'll need a gravel bike, cyclocross, touring or mountain bike with at least 35 mm tires.  We recommend 38 mm or wider.  All routes will be marked, however we require GPS enabled devices.  Final distances of each race/ride distance are finalized a few months before the race.  There is little to no cell phone coverage on the routes.  FINAL GPS routes will be provided one week before event for download to all registered riders.  Ride is limited to 400 riders.  We reserve the right to make changes to the event, consolidate categories and course for the safety of riders and for changes in roads on the course.

A generous portion of proceeds will go to the local Police, Fire & Emergency teams supporting this race!
